Alternative use for a silk scarf

Silk scarves look chic and are nice and light - good for nicer weather but they are slippery around your neck and can get annoying.  How about using it to accessorise your bag?!  You can tie it in a knot or bow on a neutral bag around one of the handles and presto you have revamped your bag making it look brand spanking new whilst adding some pattern and colour to it.

Here is my bag as an example:

You can also fold it into a thin strip and wrap it round your hair like a hair band or bandana.  Have a play around and see what you can do with your silk scarves or other accessories!  Have a little fun with it.

Men's Spring/Summer trends 2011

There are 3 key themes running through the men’s Spring/Summer trends for 2011.

1) Motorcycle fashion

Also a key trend for women, the main element here is ‘statement’ jackets.  The will be in a simple all over black for the men.

2) Flared Jeans

With the 70s revival the men’s trend start to move away from straight cut skinny jeans to a subtle flair.   Unlike the women who have a straight out bell-bottoms come back.

3) Men’s modern suit styles for 2011

Men’s trends are greatly different to that of women in that their cycle tends to move much slower.  In this respect suits tend to be on trend for quite a long time.  Which is great as you can afford to get a nice suit that you know will last throughout the different seasons.  Nevertheless you will still see elements in the styles, cuts and cloths that will take to the forefront.  Here are some examples:

The two main themes behind the styles for 2011/12 is Classism and Masculinity, i.e. Broad shoulders, slim waist and slim trousers.  So you are focussing on a more slimmer/tailored look.

Cuts

Single Breasted Suit – Is a lot sleeker

Double Breasted – This hides a plumper figure.  It broadens the shoulders and slims the waist.

3 Piece Suit – This suit is making a revival.  Its all about cohesion in 2011/12 so make sure it's the same fabric and colour.

Confidence Cut – There isn’t really a name for it yet but this is the suit that has an extra something.  As with all men’s suits for 2011/12 it's the cut that's all about the males physique and the revival if classic suiting elements.  It has a 1930’s/70’s revival about it and it’s all about the peaked lapels.

Cloths

The most popular are wool, cotton and linen but if you want to try something a little bit different how about velvet?  Possibly not as a full on suit but more of a dressier jacket for the evenings.  Will be bang on trend especially towards the end of the year for Autumn/Winter.

Women's Spring/Summer trends for 2011

Happy New Year!

Hope you are all well and excited about the new year ahead of you!  It's a great chance to make a fresh start and I for one am looking forward to what hopefully will be a successful year. If like me you are fed up of this wintery weather this should cheer you up!  The Spring/Summer collections are already hitting the stores, reminding us that the better weather is on its way! Here is a little guide of the key looks and trends that you will be expecting to see:

Key looks

70’s glamour

With 50’s and 60’s fashion on trend the 70’s also starts to appear with bohemian style pieces.  Think long flowing skirts/dresses.

Biker clothing

Moving on from a decade of military fashion this is the natural progression into the new decade.

Punk fashion

You will see influences of punk incorporated into other spring/summer trends.  Be careful with this one though as you cant afford to get it wrong!

60’s ladylike

With 1950’s and 60’s making a strong return you will expect to see some 60’s lady like fashion with shapes that accentuate the curves.  The ultimate in hourglass dressing.  For spring 2011 there will be fresh colour, prints and light summary fabrics.

Clothing trends

Maxi dress – its all about the length this season.  You will see it in dresses, skirts and trousers.  Length, length length!!!

Lace Clothing – antique style fabrics – Love this!

Tassels – You will see these everywhere…on clothes, shoes, bags etc.

Bell bottoms – With the 1970’s making a comeback expect to see bell bottoms return.

Wide leg trousers

Capri pants

Tail hems (dresses longer at the back)

Stripes – Still playing a dominant part of any Spring/Summer season.

Jumpsuits and playsuits

Crop tops – Last we saw the ‘crop top’ was in 2009.  Its now back and is perfect for the warmer weather!

Accessory trends

Cat Eye sunglasses – tying in with the 1970s trend.

Belt purse

Shoe trends

Clogs – Particularly the brass studded wooden clogs.  The clog continues to be a massive trend for this season.

Kitten heels

Not my personal favourite but the kitten heel is spurred on by the 50’s/60’s trend.

Now we just need the warmer weather to come!!

Happy shopping! :)

What to wear for New Years Eve??!

Hey guys,

Now with Christmas out of the way (hope you all had a good one by the way!) New Years eve is fast approaching!  Have you got your outfits sorted?  If not, don't worry there is still time.  I have pulled together some of my favourite party pieces.

1) Off the shoulder top

This is a great piece as it goes really well with a pair of jeans and heels.  Simple but great.  Off the shoulder pieces are everywhere at the moment.  I chose this one because the fabric is very feminine and girly.  Plus, if you want a more modest look this is a great look (your not too exposed!) The flower adds a nice bit of detail and because it is black you are able to play around a lot more with the accessories.

2) The black dress

The black dress is always a great look - timeless.  Its great for the party season, especially if you have some added sparkle or detailing as above.  The bow on this dress nips in the waist giving you a lovely silhouette (disguising the round tummy that you have after all the turkey from Christmas and pudding!)

3)  Dress with animal print

I chose this off the shoulder animal print dress because I though it was quite unusual and it makes a change from the usual glitzy and glamorous dresses out there.  Perhaps if you are interested in something different, try animal print detailing.

4) Playsuit

If you would prefer to cover up your legs, you could always go for a playsuit.  Again, this is black but you could choose another colour.  Starting plain is always a good way to start and then you can build up your look with accessories.  If you are daring you could always go for a red flower in your hair for a Spanish look!

Hope these pieces inspire you to find a special look for your end of year party!

Have a very Happy New Year and I will be back in 2011 for some more style advice!!

Tights, tights, tights!!!

Hey Guys,

Sorry its been a while!  I have been meaning to get round to writing this post!  Now that I am stuck at home because of the weather I have no excuse!  Tights are everywhere at the moment, with all sorts of colours, patterns and styles.  They are great to keep you covered up and they add so much detail to an outfit with little effort!  As its December now it is officially the party season and tights are a great way to glam things up.

I particularly liked the tights that Cheryl Cole was wearing in her music video, 'The Promise'.  A great example of whats out there at the moment!

She wore them for her performance on the X Factor as well...

They are great as they are so simple but they create such a nice effect on an entire outfit.  Check out mytights.com and M&S for some top tights!!
